Dear uNAVSA,

Last Saturday, the CPP Committee was proud to announce at uNAVSA-7 in Washington, D.C. that the final amount raised for the 2009 – 2010 CPP “Chapters of Us” Campaign was $46,963. The committee congratulated all the regions and CPP Supporters for exceeding the goal of $39,000 by over $8,000.

Yesterday, we received very exciting news that Brian Vo, former uNAVSA president, was able to lock in a total of $25,000 on behalf of the Macquarie Group Foundation. It is with great pride that we announce the official amount raised for this year’s “Chapters of Us” CPP Campaign is $59,529.02.

This final amount sets a new record for CPP history. This is the highest amount ever raised since the inception of CPP five years ago and no previous CPP campaign has exceeded their goal by this amount.

The CPP Committee would like to extend our special appreciation for Brian Vo’s great contribution to this year’s campaign, as well as his overall leadership as uNAVSA’s president for the past two years. Brian concludes his term with several important achievements for uNAVSA, including; the formation of organizational infrastructure that will ensure long-term structure & sustainability for uNAVSA, forming valuable relationships with other leading APIA groups with the APIA Identity Project, and taking great leaps with uNAVSA’s financial sustainability with the first corporate relationships (i.e. Wal-mart Stores, inc.). Last, but not least, for his help in getting CPP to achieve record-setting victories. Throughout the entire campaign, Brian has been relentless in his support and guidance as an advisor, friend and thought-partner – always with the best interest of both uNAVSA and VAHF in mind.

We’d also like to thank, once again, all of dozens of participating VSAs, UVSAs, and community supporters across the nation for all your hard work and dedication. As we strive to collect and preserve our personal history and promote leadership, community-building and culture identity, your financial and community support has been more important than ever. Because of your work and dedication, the stories and history of our parents and elders will be collected and preserved for generations to come.

If you are interested in becoming the next CPP Director, we are looking for the next person to spearhead the 2010-2011 campaign for The Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation. If you are interested, we will be sending the application out by the end of this month and we hope you will consider applying.

Please feel free to direct any questions or comments to Lisa.Nguyen@unavsa.org (CPP Director 2009 – 2010, uNAVSA’s Internal Vice President)

–
The energy was overflowing and the E-board was very kind enough to make time to play the CPP Video & “A Word from VAHF” video in front of about 100 retreat attendees! The crowd was not shy in responding back to the videos with their own shouts of “This is OUR Chapter!”

CPP Director, Lisa Nguyen, was also lucky enough to have a few minutes to talk to the ever-so-strong Mid-Atlantic region about their CPP-fundraising potential (as well tell a couple bad jokes). Thank you for your CPP Support, MAUVSA!

uNAVSA will work with VAHF to support their “500 Oral History Project.” The project encompasses collecting 500 personal stories of Vietnamese Americans, archiving it and publishing it as an anthology. “So that younger generations of Vietnamese here and in Vietnam, and the American public can hear our side of history, and for American teaching institutions to teach our history” (VAHF).

VAHF will share these stories by hosting seminars and providing exhibits of these stories at community centers and academic institutions throughout the country. Copies of these published anthologies will be made available to the public to give students and educators and opportunity to hear our side of history and for American teaching institutions to teach our history.
