What is uNAVSA & what is CPP?

  • uNAVSA stands for the Union of North American Vietnamese Student Associations – they are the umbrella organization that supports VSAs across the country through leadership & personal development.
  • CPP stands for the Collective Philanthropy Project. Every year at the uNAVSA conference, North American VSAs (including Canada) vote on a different beneficiary who we collectively fundraise for over the course of the year.
  • This year, The Vietnamese American Heritage Foundation’s (VAHF) “500 Oral Histories Project” was voted as the CPP winner! Why? Because they have an amazing project that will serve Vietnamese Americans now and for many generations to come – but they need our help to fund the project.
  • What’s “The 500 Oral Histories Project”? The goal of the “500 Oral Histories Project” is to execute a large-scale project where the young Vietnamese American generation to interview the older Vietnamese American generation for their amazing stories of escaping Vietnam and transitioning to America. VAHF will then document and preserve these stories so that Vietnamese American generations to come will have a reference of these accounts.
  • What’s the Goal? All participating VSAs will help spread awareness and, collectively, we want to raise $39,000 so that this project can happen! Every dollar counts – and every chance to spread awareness helps!

Why should my group support this?

  • Connect w/ VSAs across the country! This is the one way that you can connect your VSA to VSAs from across the country – we are all working together to !
  • Connect w/ VSAs in your region! Band together with VSAs in your neighboring state or area – and let all the other regions know that your region has the greatest VSA spirit!
  • This is a bold reflection of our generations’ values. As young Vietnamese Americans, choosing to support this project is a message to adults to let them know that we care about their story and where we came from.

Ok! What can I do?

  • Talk to your CORR (uNAVSA Council of Regional Reps) so you can learn more about our region’s goals!
  • Watch this 3 minute video! http://cpp.unavsa.org/2010/
    • Create a video with friends or by yourself to express “A Vietnamese American Story” – (Or ask your parents for their memories of Vietnam, and record them on video or audio!) – every video upload gets us a donation from a generous donor!
  • Donate on our website here.
  • Organize a Fundraise! If you have events coming up, find a way to ask people to donate! Or be creative and organize a separate fundraiser!
  • Promote, promote, promote!
